Headteacher’s Welcome

It is my great privilege as the Headteacher of Carleton House Preparatory School to welcome you to our school website.

There can be little doubt that choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. So why choose Carleton House?

Our school motto, ‘They can because they think they can’ reflects the aspirations and achievements of every child who comes to us. We are an inclusive Catholic school committed to our faith, welcoming all denominations of girls and boys aged 3-11.

Carleton House is an independent preparatory school in Liverpool and was established by a group of parents in the early 1970s in response to the closure of its forerunner school, Woolton Hall Preparatory School. The school was established to preserve the traditions and values of a unique Catholic Preparatory School. From the beginning we have been committed to both academic excellence and the creation of a positive and affirming pastoral environment.

We recognise the unique value of all our children and focus on helping them to develop their talents and potential. We are more than a place of learning. We are a place of growth, discovery and celebration. Above all we are a family – a diverse, welcoming community rooted in our core faith values. Since opening in 1974 at Lyndhurst Road, Mossley Hill in Liverpool, we have gone from strength to strength, faithful to our traditions and founding values.

Our most recent external ISI Educational Quality inspection judged both the acheivement of our pupils, including their academic development and the personal development of the pupils to be Excellent – the highest possible judgement. All regulatory requirements were fully met.

“The quality of the pupils’ academic and other achievements is excellent. The school’s aim to develop a love of learning, foster intellectual curiosity and expand cultural horizons are successfully met.”

Carleton House Preparatory School ISI Report June 2022.

We provide an education based on strong moral and personal values with Christ at the centre of all that we do. Our mission statement, ‘We Live, Love and Learn with Jesus,’ is lived out through our daily interactions. Inclusivity enriches our school; our pupils grow in mutual understanding and respect.

Our talented and experienced staff work closely with our pupils and parents to ensure the highest quality provision as evidenced in our consistently outstanding results both in national examinations and entrance examinations. A rich academic and pastoral curriculum with a strong emphasis on creativity, independence and love of learning produces well rounded, articulate and confident young people who strive not only for their own benefit but for that of others.

Our website is designed to give you an insight into life here at our highly successful school. View the range of extra-curricular activities available, look at our delicious home cooked menus,  take in the breadth of the curriculum and the range of trips, including residential activity holidays both in the UK and beyond, in order to appreciate all that we have to offer. Having viewed the website we hope that you will come and meet us and experience life at Carleton House for yourself. We are confident that you will love it just as much as we do!

We look forward to meeting you.
