| Curriculum |
| English and Mathematics are given particular emphasis in a wide ranging curriculum which includes all other National Curriculum subjects. Pupils receive thorough grounding in all subjects including: Religious Education, Science, History, Geography, Information and Communication Technology, Music, Art/CDT and Physical Education. All pupils in the Reception class will follow the Early Learning Goals before moving on to follow the National Curriculum, in all subjects, from Year 1. At the age of eleven the children transfer into independent or state secondary schools. Carleton House prepares its pupils for entry to the schools of their parents’ choice. Opportunities also exist to take part in ballet, speech and drama, chess and guitar lessons.
French is now taught in both Infant and Junior classes. This is a very successful extension of the curriculum. The pupils enjoy the subject and receive an excellent foundation for when they move on to secondary schools.
Health education is taught throughout the school as part of the Science and Religious Education lessons. The children are taught to look after their bodies through healthy living and diet.
After consultation with parents, the Year 6 children are given sex education lessons as part of their Education for Personal Relationships.
The school provides, within the Christian context, sound moral values and principles and the children are encouraged to develop a sense of social responsibility and a sensitivity to, and understanding of, other people. These aims are further reinforced in Religious Education lessons. Catholic children are prepared for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Communion. |

| Special Needs |
| The school employs a part-time specialist to support children with difficulties in Maths or English and to cater for specific difficulties such as dyslexia. |
| |
| Sports and Other Activities |
| All children participate in Physical Education Lessons. The school has the use of the excellent gymnasium and swimming pool at the nearby John Moores University. Junior classes have swimming lessons and children are prepared for various Swimming Awards under the supervision of the fully qualified swimming teachers and coaches.
Carleton House is affiliated to all the local schools’ sporting associations and a wide variety of games are played in the school and at inter-school level including: football, cricket, netball, rounders, swimming and chess.
The Year 5 children spend a weekend at Manor Adventure Centre in Shropshire where they have the opportunity to be introduced to archery, orienteering, a mini-caving system and various adventure activities.
Each year, the Year 6 pupils spend a week during the summer term on a residential course. The aim of the course is to cover as wide a range of activities as possible, thus giving the children new and varied experiences. This includes activities such as rock climbing and abseiling, in order to help build the child’s confidence, self-esteem and independence. Children also have the opportunity to develop their ICT skills.
Various out-of-school activities are organised for all age groups on a regular basis. These include visits to the theatre, science fairs and museums and a variety of field trips.
The school also enters local Choral and Speech Festivals and takes part in General Knowledge and Road Safety Quizzes organised by outside bodies. |

| Entry Procedure |
Reception Class
This is by interview for entry at four plus.
Parents and children are encouraged to visit the school to meet the pupils and staff.
During the Summer Term, prior to entry in September, the new intake visits the school in small groups
spending half a day in the Reception class. This enables them to familiarise themselves with the staff and the school.
|
Other classes
Entry may be made into other Year groups if places are available.
After visiting the school your child will be expected to spend the day with the relevant age group. An assessment will be made as to whether a placement at Carleton House would be appropriate for your child.
Parents need to complete a registration form and, if a place is offered, a deposit will be required. Please see enclosed Registration Form. |
Fees

The level of school fees is determined annually by the Management Committee. Since Carleton House is a Registered Charity, and therefore non-profit making, any increase is directly related to the increase in expenditure for the benefit of the school.
