Sport
All children take part in Physical Education Lessons. Infants have two one hour PE lessons a week. The Juniors also have two hours with the opportunity to get involved in a further two hours extra curricular activity through Sportslink. The school also has the benefit of an extra half an hour physical activity per week for all pupils in years 1 to 6 delivered by a qualified coach.
The school has the use of the excellent facilities at the Liverpool John Moores University including playing fields, gymnasium, sports hall, Astroturf and 25m swimming pool. Calderstones Park is also used for cross country training and David Campbell football sessions.
Junior classes have swimming lessons and children are prepared for various Swimming Awards under the supervision of the fully qualified swimming teachers and coaches.
Carleton House is affiliated to all the local schools' sporting associations and a wide variety of games are played in the school and at inter-school level including: football, cricket, netball, rounders, swimming, athletics and cross-country.
In Years 5 and 6 students are given the opportunity to have taster sessions in sports such as fencing and to undertake cycling training.
New sports are being introduced all the time to the extra curricular activities e.g. golf, Tag Rugby, Basketball and High Fives Netball.
Recent sporting success have been:
Autumn
Football: Year 5 boys and Year 6 boys competed in football matches and various tournaments throughout South Liverpool. Both teams progressed to the quarterfinals of the Highway cup but were unfortunately knocked out at this stage.
Spring
Cross Country season: both boys and girls teams competed very well. The boys finished third overall in the league and the girls' team finished first thanks to an excellent team effort with particular note being made of the outstanding individual performances by two girls who both consistently finished in the top 3. In addition to their league success, Carleton House were victorious at the Cross Country Primary School Championships. All of the cross country team should be very proud of their results this year - a real team effort - and with many of our junior pupils attending the Tuesday evening cross country training, the future looks bright.
Summer
Athletics: the best athletics season in recent memory. At the LDCSA Athletics Championships in Wavertree , minor schools group, both boys and girls teams won and we took our largest team yet forward to the champion of champions competition at Wavertree where amidst a wealth of place medals, one pupil came first overall in the Year 3 long jump, Two of our girls won the Year 5 high jump and Year 6 long jump.
Swimming: we enjoyed yet more success - winning water polo and coming second overall in the Merseyside Primary Games Competition (having won Liverpool Minor Schools Swimming Gala to gain entry).
This year the school has also taken part in several events organised by the Liverpool Schools Sports Partnership finishing first in the Tri Golf competition and second in gymnastics as well as Years 4, 5 and 6 participating in a dance festival.
It was a very long line at Prize Night in July!
