The School

What is the structure of the school?

Carleton House is divided into three departments.

Foundation Stage 1 (pre-school) is available for pupils aged 3+ on a full or part time basis. The part time provision can be taken up for full days, or just morning or afternoon sessions, or a combination of the two. Lunch is compulsory for all pupils who attend Foundation Stage 1 either full or part time and is an important part of their becoming familiar with the routine of school life.

After-Hours care for pupils in Foundation Stage 1 is available up to 6pm Monday to Friday during term time. A separate charge is made for After Hours care.

The Infant Department consists of three classes (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) catering for children aged four to seven. The children then progress to the Junior Department, which has four classes (Years 3-6) for seven to eleven age range. There is a teacher responsible for each class with a Teaching Assistant for each class in Nursery, Reception, Years 1, 2 and 3, together with a Teaching Assistant for Years 4/5/6 and two Assistant Teachers who work throughout the school.

There are also specialist teachers in the Junior Department for Mathematics, English, Science, Music and Physical Education and Sport. Small class sizes mean pupils benefit from more individual attention - especially important when preparing for entrance exams for secondary school.
